We're excited to offer these programs designed for all ages and skill level riders. This Spring we are offering three (3) different Mountain Biking Programs: Cubbies - True Beginners (suggested ages 4-6), Bruins - Novice Level (suggested ages 7-9) and Black Bears - Intermediate Level (suggested ages 10+) to build confidence and foundational skills. Over the course of four lessons in April and May, riders will learn foundational mountain biking skills through hands-on instruction, trail rides, and games that make learning fun. Participants will be coached by the amazing team from Boys & Girls Club of Greater Shasta, featuring professional BICP-certified instructor. Instructors keep things safe, supportive and exciting through skill-appropriate learning experiences, creating a fun environment for every rider!

Cubbies - True Beginner Program (suggested ages 4-6) - To participate:
No prior mountain biking experience needed! Riders must be riding on their own without assistance (no training wheels or balance bikes). Participants have no or minimal experience on dirt trails and do not ride frequently. They lack confidence on uneven terrain and do not have good/proper braking skills to slow down.
Riders will progress from the most basic techniques on the bike such as balance, stance and braking by implementing these skills on blacktop. The goal is to progress riders to flat dirt trails. Hand brakes, no coaster brakes preferred!

Bruins - Novice Level Program (suggested ages 7-9) - To participate:
Participants have little experience on dirt and Green Circle level trails. Riders should have decent balancing, braking and cornering skills. They should be able to ride on their own for 15-20 minutes with minimal assistance or walking. The goal is to continue building confidence and get riders ready for our Black Bear Program and Blue Square Trails. Bruins will start out on flat ground and progress to dirt trails. Any participants from recent Beginner Level programs are welcome!

Bruins Trail Examples (Green Circles):
-Lollipop -Muir's Ascension
-Foundation -Moon Doggie
-Gateway

Black Bear - Intermediate Level Program (suggested ages 10+) - To participate:
Intermediate riders should confidently navigate Blue Square trails, demonstrating control on singletrack, berms, and moderate obstacles. They have good braking, cornering, and balance skills and can ride on trails for at least 30 minutes without assistance. Any participants in the recent Intermediate Programs are welcome! Our goal is to perfect skills and get the riders ready for Advance Level Programs and Trails in the future.

Black Bear Trail Examples (Green Circles and Blue Squares):
-Ten Gallon Trail System -Upper and Lower Bear Springs
-Muir's Ascension -Strawberry Valley
-Lemurian Delirium
